I self-trained as a graphic designer in 1997 after leaving Performance Bikes magazine, where I'd seen Phil Long and Damien Smith using Photoshop. I already knew how to airbrush and just thought it was the most amazing bit of kit; you didn't even have to wash anything out to change paint colours.
Illustrator was very different but extremely useful too, specially for custom lettering. A long time before I became seriously interested in sign painting, I'd often letter by hand and vectorise using Illustrator.
So I've got over 20 years experience in commercial graphic design and still enjoy working with clients who appreciate the elegance and sophistication of vintage lettering.
